(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council awarded the contract for the Atlantic Façade Rehabilitation Contract on Wednesday to Cornerstone Commercial Contractors Inc.
Two firms bid on the contract. Cornerstone Commercial Contractors Inc. out of Corning submitted the low bid of $422,009.00, and United Construction presented a $434,000.00 proposal. RDG Planning and Design estimated the project to be $520,500.00.
The façade improvements include the building front 24-inches deep and side for corner buildings, restoration, rehabilitation, and replacement.
The goal is to make Chestnut Street look better and improve the quality of the buildings. The main focus of the grant is to improve the building fronts.
The Federal Government covers half of the project, the City funds 25-percent of it, and the building owners include the other 25-percent.
The businesses taking part in the project include:
*Nail and Spa-400 Chestnut Street.
*Brymon’s Interior-412-414 Chestnut
*Meredith Communications-413 Chestnut
*Fog Zone-420 Chestnut
*And buildings located at 509, 511, and 514, on Chestnut Street.
The project is expected to be completed by July, of 2021.
In other business:
*The Atlantic City Council voted 7-0 to denied the request from Tad Wonio to reverse a a $937.00 abatement at 602 Maple Street.
*The Atlantic City Council voted 7-0 to change the Federal Functional Classification System on Atlantic Roadways.
*The Atlantic City Council voted 7-0 to amend the fiscal year 2020 Budget. Atlantic City Administrator Lund says the City experienced higher than forecasted revenues in four areas.
The first was a $50,761.00 in interest income to various funds duetothe well-timed investment of reverse funds in long-term, peak interest certificates of deposit (CD’s). Lund says the City also had $60,920.00 in grant funding for the Parks improvement reserve. The storm Water Utility Fund saw a$10,500.00 in penalties and delinquent collections. And, the Miscellaneous Revenues saw $43,700.00 in total with donations from Schildberg Recreation Area Fund, Library endowment proceeds to the 2018-2021 CIP Fund and Library Constortium Funding in the Library Gifts Fund.
On the expenditures side the City had the following changes: $7,000 for Code Enforcement software, $11,500.00 for COVID-19 related purchases, and $23,000 for the Library Consortium. Other expenditures include; $13,000 in additional legal costs, $3,800.00 for the refinancing of the 2012 and 2013 General Obligation Bond Series, and $15,000.00 for the storm water sweeper.
Lund says the final budget outlook will become clearer in June when the Council passes the final resolution on transfers. He says this amendment merely reflects the unforeseen revenues and expenditures that have already occurred, and this willreconcile the books to reality.
*The Council also set June 17 for a public hearing on the designation of the expanded North Urban Renewal Area and on and Urban Renewal Plan Amendment.
*Approved the third and final reading amending the code of ordinance entitled No Parking Zones on the north side of East 12th Street.
*Approved street closures at 6th Street between Chestnut and Poplar Streets from 3:00 p.m.to 6:45 p.m. on Thursday evenings for Produce in the Park,m from June 4 through September 24.
Atlantic Mayor Dave Jones swore in new Police Officer Tayte Schoff. Atlantic City Adminstrator John Lund says Schoff was selected from a highly qualified and competitive pool of applicants to be Atlantic newest Officer. Schoff is an Iowa native, and joins the force from Scotland County, Missouri where he served as a Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. Schoff’s first day on the job was on March 17, 20202.
