(Johnston) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds reported during her daily news conference 96 additional positive cases of COVID-19 bringing the total to 1,995 positive cases.
The Governor reported 407 negative cases bringing the total to 17,874 negative tests. The State Hygienic Lab has 3,048 tests available. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, 171 patients are hospitalized, 908 recovered, (46-percent), and four additional deaths bringing the total to 53 fatalities. One elderly adult in Polk County, one elderly adult in Clayton County, one older adult in Allamakee County, and one older adult in Johnson County, for a total of 53 fatalities.
The Iowa Department of Public Health has confirmed one additional outbreak in a long term health care facility. This one is located in Muscatine County, bringing the total long term health care facility outbreaks to seven in Iowa.
“More than 10-percent of Iowa’s total number of positive COVID-19 cases, and 49-percent of the state’s deaths, are related to long term care outbreaks,” said Reynolds. “All deaths in Iowa are among older and elderly individuals and those with underlying health conditions, underscoring the importance of doing our part to protect the most vulnerable part of the state’s population.”
The Iowa Department of Public Health is sending testing supplies to the Wilton Retirement Center in Muscatine, to test additional residents. A further 900 tests are being carried to the Tyson plant in Louisa County, which is in addition to the 200 tests sent last week.
Reynolds says across all of the state’s RMCC regions on Tuesday, there were 171 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, 20 admitted in the past 24 hours, 78 patients in ICU, and 43 on ventilators. Additionally, in hospitals across the state, there are 7,930 inpatient beds, 533 ICU beds, and 718 ventilators available for inpatient care.
