(Atlantic) The Atlantic Cross Country Team will be holding time trials on Tuesday at the Nishna Hills Golf Course. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says the first two weeks of preseason workouts have gone well.
The boy’s team is led by last season’s state qualifier, Mason Betts, and after that, it appears to be a dogfight for the next five starting spots.
And Vargason says there are some young pups that are giving the upperclassmen a run for their money.
Even though the girl’s squad has low numbers. Coach Vargason says the talent is there, that an eighth-grader has been pulled up, and that the girls have two runners participating in dual sports.
Coach Vargason says the time trials start at 5:00 p.m. He adds that Nishna Hills allows the team to use its course, so they want to be respectful of members who wish to golf. Vargason says everyone will run together in a mock race to prepare for Saturday’s meet at Glenwood. Vargason says the goal is to give the team a chance to run 3.1 miles without any interruptions.
The race will start in front of the clubhouse.
