(Polk Co.) The body of a Windsor Heights man who went overboard in the Des Moines River Saturday has been located.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as James Michael. Emergency crews were called at approximately 6:45 p.m. Saturday after Michael went overboard near Northwest Morningstar Drive and Northwest 45th Place.
Deputies and several fire and rescue agencies searched the area, with a drone also deployed to assist. Search efforts resumed Sunday and continued into Monday before active operations were suspended after Michael could not be located.
On Monday at approximately 5:45 p.m., Des Moines emergency personnel responded to an area of the Des Moines River east of the Prospect Park boat ramp after an unresponsive individual was located.
The individual was positively identified as Michael and transferred to the custody of the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office. No further details have been released.
