(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council Wednesday evening approved the plans and specifications for the Atlantic Animal Shelter Building addition. This past July, the Council adopted the engineering agreement with Snyder and Associates.
The project funds come from the generous contribution from the Lorene Eppelsheimer estate. The former Griswold school teacher willed $135,000 to the Atlantic Animal Shelter. The only instructions were to use the funds to benefit the animals.
Kris Erickson, Atlantic’s Code Enforcement Officer, and Animal Shelter Manager will use the money to build a 26×30-feet addition to the shelter. The added space will allow for cats and dogs to be separated. The new structure will also allow for additional rows of cages for the cats. Included in the plans will be a grooming station and veterinary area. The building update also includes energy-efficient lighting, expanded storage, and separation of the water and electrical lines.
Austin Sonntag of Snyder and Associates says the addition located on the east side of the current facility is 26×30-square feet. He says bids will go out on Thursday, March 5, and due on March 31. He says the estimated cost of the project is around $151,000.00.
The Council set a bid date and public hearing for the addition for April 1, at 5:30 p.m.
