(Avoca) They’ve met twice already and each team won once. AHSTW and Logan-Magnolia get together for a third time on Wednesday with a spot in the state tournament being the prize for the winner. We’ll have the Class 2A Regional Final from Harlan on 96.5 FM KSOM with the game tipping off at 6:00.
The Lady Vikes are excited to put a better foot forward than they did the last around against the Panthers. They lost to Logan-Magnolia 54-41 in Avoca. “We’re eager. We had just gotten rated #8 the day before we played them and really felt like we came out and laid an egg a little bit. They had a lot to do with that. They had a good defensive game plan for us, we didn’t shoot the ball well, and we got in foul trouble,” coach Steve Sauvain says, “You’re always looking forward to a rematch.”
After missing the team’s last two regular season games of the year junior Kailey Jones has returned from injury and made her presence felt in the lineup. In Friday’s win over Nodaway Valley she scored 16 points and had ten rebounds. Jones is joined by Kinsey Scheffler, Claire Denning, and Claire Harris to form one of the more formidable cores of players in 2A.
Logan-Magnolia has made it to state just once in their history and came when the current seniors were freshmen in 2017. AHSTW has eight state appearances, but hasn’t made it since 2001.
