(Adel) Winterset won the team title and Atlantic/CAM was runner-up at the Class 2A sectional wrestling tournament at ADM High School in Adel on Saturday. Winterset finished with 214-points, Atlantic/CAM was second with 206.5 points.
The Huskies crowned four champions and three runners-up. Bryce Hatten, (132), Kruise Kiburz, (138), Jack West, (145), and Brody Barringer, (160), finished first. Keegan Jensen, (126), Tyler Brown, (152), and Riley Hoven, (182), qualify as sectional runners-up.
The Trojans have seven district qualifiers. Aybren Moore, (113), and Joe Weaver, (126), earned sectional championships. Easton O’Brien, (106), Ethan Follman, (120), Payton Fewson, (170), Devin McKay, (195), and Cale Roller, (285), qualified as runners-up.
“We’re excited to have seven wrestlers moving on,” said Atlantic/CAM Head Coach Tim Duff. “We got off to a good start and were able to stay ahead of Creston throughout the tournament. I thought our guys competed very well in tough situations and we scored bonus points when we had a chance.
“We’re going to focus on the team over the next couple of days and get ready to compete hard on Tuesday night,” said Duff. “Then on Wednesday, we’ll turn our attention to our seven district qualifiers. This is a good number for us.”
#10 Atlantic/CAM will square off against #26 Red Oak in the Regional semi-finals at Atlantic on Tuesday. #9 Humboldt takes on #25 rated Van Meter in the other semi-final. The winners will match up in the Regional finals for a trip to the state dual tourney slated for Wednesday, February 19.
Creston-Orient-Macksburg finished third with 170.5, Greene County, fourth, 146, Panorama, fifth, 120, Kuemper, sixth, 110, and ADM, seventh, with 104.
The Panthers send four wrestlers to the District meet at Atlantic on Saturday. Hayden Green, (170), Jackson Kinsella, (182), and Sam Chapman, (195), finished first. Garon Wurster, (132), qualified as a runner-up.
The top two individuals in each weight class move on to the District Meet in Atlantic on Saturday, February 15.
