(Audubon) With winter weather in full effect in Southwest Iowa, crews in Audubon County are focusing on hard surfaced roads.
Jami Schleimer is the Roads Superintendent in Audubon County. “We are out on hard surface roads right now. We are trying to stay ahead of it on there. With the wind coming in and the change in precipitation that might force us off the road this afternoon so we’ll have to see once that time comes.”
For gravel roads they’ll wait until the snow is all finished and work their way through them as conditions allow this weekend. “Tomorrow with what they are calling for we might not get out on any gravel roads until Sunday and then at that point some people might not see their gravel road cleared until Monday or Tuesday depending on how much snow we get.”
County Engineer Mitch Rydl says they have about 100 miles of paved surfaces to cover in the county with seven plows. There are roughly 600 miles of gravel roads with nine motor grader operators. “On our gravel roads we try to get it open one way within a 24 hour period, but with the predicted wind that’s going to be tough. We’ll try our best. It all depends on how the wind is going to be blowing this weekend and when we are going to get out there.”
