(Atlantic) Atlantic City Administrator John Lund says the budget process is moving along. Lund appearing in front of the City Council on Wednesday says the projected levy rate appears to be around $16.54 per thousand dollars of valuation. He says that may change, but it’s going down.
“I have some good news, the city is no longer going to have to estimate what we think our health insurance premiums will be in the coming year since we are in the Iowa Communities Trust Pool. Wellmark issues renewal figures much earlier,” said Lund. “The bad news is the renewal is around 12-percent.”
Lund says Cottingham and Butler are reviewing the cities self-insured component and will have final recommendations for the coming week.
Lund set a date for later this month to review the early budget figures with the new Personnel and Finance Committee so he can answer any questions they may have.
“We have a new maximum property tax dollars resolution to pass because of the new Iowa Code, adopted the last session,” said Lund. “They intended to make this transparent but it’s not, so I can explain how that works.”
