(Avoca) Clayton Akers has played a major role in AHSTW’s 8-1 record in boys basketball this season. The Vikings have benefited from his averages of 12.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game average.
Akers is hitting 82.6% of his free-throws which leads the Western Iowa Conference among players with more than ten attempts. 3-point shooting has been another big part of the senior’s game with a clip of 44.7% beyond the arc. His 17 3’s and his scoring average rank 2nd on the team. He’s a two-year starter who also played in 19 games as a sophomore. Akers was the team’s leading scorer during his junior season.
As a four sport athlete he’s been a key contributor on some extremely successful football and soccer squads in the last couple of years. This past summer he led the Viking baseball team in innings pitched, ERA, and saves.
