(Exira) From prom to graduation and everything in between, the Class of 2020 has missed out on a lot of typical experiences. Because of that, Exira-EHK graduates have been selected as junior grand marshals for the 4th of July parade.
Kami Waymire is among the seniors looking forward to Saturday’s festivities. “I think we are all really excited. It’s really cool for us because the support that the community has shown us throughout all this has just been incredible. They were all lined up for our graduation parade and now I hope they are all going to be there for the 4th of July Parade so we can show them how much we appreciate them supporting us.”
Waymire details some of the difficult aspects seniors have had to deal with this year. “The fact that we didn’t know when our last day of school was. We just all went home on Friday thinking we were going to see each other on Monday. We never got to. It’s been really hard thinking I’m not going to see these kids everyday. It’s hard coming to a reality that it’s over now and we have to move on.”
The parade route has been extended four blocks this year to allow for extra social distancing room between families. No candy or other items can be handed out. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m.
