(Ankeny) The CAM volleyball team’s postseason run ended Monday night with a three-set loss to top-ranked Ankeny Christian in the Class 1A Region 1 semifinals. The Eagles won 25-5, 25-13, and 25-10.
CAM took an early 1-0 lead in the opening set, but Ankeny Christian responded with a 7-0 run, fueled largely by sophomore Havanna Dohlbear, who entered the match with 351 kills on the season. The Eagles took the first set 25-5.
The Cougars adjusted defensively in the second set, using several blocks at the net to slow down Ankeny Christian’s attack. However, the Eagles pulled away to win 25-13.
CAM trailed 24-10 late in the set but scored three consecutive points before Ankeny Christian closed it out.
The top-ranked Eagles finished strong in the third set, scoring five straight points to secure a 25-10 victory and advance to the regional final.
CAM Head Coach Hillary Zimmerline reflected on the match following Monday night’s loss.
CAM graduates three seniors: Ada Hansen, Ruthrie Rich, and Courtney Follman.
Zimmerline says the Cougars performed better than expected during the postseason and enjoyed their run together.
CAM finishes the season with a 15-11 record. Ankeny Christian improves to 37-2 and advances to the regional final.
