(Area) Atlantic’s seven state championships are tied with Iowa City High, North Tama, and Tipton for the most by any girls track program. The Trojann’s streak of four straight from 1998-2001 is the 2nd longest in Iowa history behind Assumptions five in a row from 2013-2017.
In addition to seven team championships an three runner-up trophies, Atlantic also has seven other top four team finishes and is a 22 time Hawkeye Ten Champion including 16 straight league titles from 1988-2003.
Atlantic’s Tiff Pedersen won 12 career state golds which is tied for 8th on Iowa’s all-time list. Cortney Jacobs (Atlantic) and Rebekah Topham (Griswold) each won 11 events at state. Jenny Runchey (Atlantic) who went into the IGHSAU Hall of Fame last spring won six gold medals with five of those coming in individual events. Other multi-time champs of note in Atlantic history are Joey Schope (4), Haley Parrott (5), Ashley Hayes (5), Lauren Osborne (4) and Anna Wernimont (2).
