(Atlantic) Haley Rasmussen scored 27-points and senior Mckenzie Waters scored her 800th career point to lead Atlantic past Clarinda 58-14 in a Class 3A Regional quarterfinal at Atlantic on Saturday night.
Rasmussen scored all of her 27- points in the first half. Taylor McCreedy added 9, Jada Jensen, 8, Mckenzie Waters 5, Lauren Nicholas and Nellie Grooms 3 points each. Maycie Waters chipped in 2, and Aubrey Guyer, 1.
Jesselee Neihart led the Cardinals with 8-points, Chloe Strait, 4, and Jillian Graham chipped in 2.
The Trojans opened up an 18-2 first-quarter lead and piled up 25-more points in the second quarter for a 45-6 halftime advantage.
The entire second half was played with the running clock. The Trojans led 55-10 after three quarters and 58-14 at the final bell.
“The girls came out and took care of business on the defensive end,” said Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason. “Our pressure didn’t allow them to get anything going at all. Even when we substituted they still didn’t get anything going. I am happy with their performance and the first half is exactly what we needed tonight.”
Atlantic travels to Red Oak on Wednesday night to face Red Oak in a Class 3A Region 8 semifinal.
