(Oakland) Underwood and AHSTW were the top two teams at the Class 1A Sectional Tournament hosted by Riverside on Saturday. The Eagles were as close to full strength as they’ve been in a long time and put on an impressive display. Underwood, a contender for a state trophy in a couple of weeks, had eight sectional champions and one runner-up.
AHSTW advances over half of their lineup. The Vikings had Denver Pauley (160) and Gavyn Fischer (195) earn sectional titles. Also moving on to Underwood next week are Hayden Fischer (120), Joel Sampson (132), Jaedan Rasmussen (152), Seth Kiesel (170), Leland Barr (220) and Brady Canada (285).
Treynor, Riverside, and St. Albert rounded out the top five teams followed by East Mills and Clarinda Academy.
Four Riverside wrestlers kept their season alive. Jace Rose (113) and Kaiden Hendricks (182) each won their weight class. John Schroder (106) and Nolan Moore (138) each finished 2nd.
