(Greenfield) After an injury filled fall, Nodaway Valley’s Austin Wilson has made up for lost time and them some on the mat this winter. The senior wrestler is 37-1 on the year and ranked 9th in Class 1A at 160 pounds by The Predicament.
This past weekend Wilson won the Charger Invitational in Guthrie Center by pinning his way into the finals and then notching a 9-4 decision over previously ranked (32-7) Denver Pauley, of AHSTW. The most recent tourney win is accompanied by individual titles at the Lenox Invitational, Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament, and Tri-Center Invitational. He’s undefeated against Class 1A competition. His only loss came at the John J. Harris Invitational to Kael Forsyth (Winterset) on a 4-1 decision.
The Nodaway Valley football team went 3-2 with a healthy Austin Wilson in the lineup this year. When he was out with an injury they went 0-5. He still posted 35.5 tackles as a senior and registered 188 stops for his career. He was the team’s second leading rusher in each of the last two seasons.
