(Guthrie) A breakout junior season in track and field has led to a big opportunity for ACGC’s Austin Wierick. The 400 meter standout has realized a long term goal with his commitment to the University of Dubuque track and field program.
“It’s kind of something I’ve always wanted to do. The coach there fit with me.” Says Wierick, “I just kind of progressed over the years and last year something just hit me and I exceeded what I did every other year. I grew six inches and started hitting the weight room a lot. I got a lot stronger and started running over the summer.”
Wierick still has some unfinished business at the high school level before joining the Spartans. His goals include breaking the old Guthrie Center record in the open 400 as well as qualifying for state in that event. The full interview with Wierick is available below:
