(Montgomery County) Several area fire departments responded to a structure fire in the 2400 block of 140th Street in Montgomery County.
According to the fire report, Red Oak, Elliott, Stanton, and Griswold fire departments were dispatched at approximately 2:14 p.m. after residents reported flames coming from the structure. The occupants evacuated safely without incident.
First-arriving firefighters reported light smoke coming from the residence and quickly located the fire in the attic. Crews extinguished the fire, requiring only minimal salvage and overhaul operations.
The investigation determined the fire was caused by a failure in the residence’s main electrical feed. The failure created electrical arcing, which started a fire in the soffit area. The fire then extended into the attic, igniting insulation.
No injuries were reported. Fireground operations ended at approximately 3:35 p.m., and crews turned the residence back over to the owner and occupant without further incident.
Assisting agencies included the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County and Cass County communications, and MidAmerican Energy.
