Democrat Josh Turek has won Iowa’s U.S. Senate race, defeating Republican Ashley Hinson.
The 47-year-old has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2023. He is also a former professional wheelchair basketball player and three-time Paralympic medalist. As senator, Turek plans to lower healthcare costs, protect Medicare and Social Security, support family farmers, and improve economic opportunities for working-class Iowans.
Turek will take office on January 3, 2027, and serve a six-year term. He will replace 56-year-old Republican Joni Ernst, who has represented Iowa in the U.S. Senate since 2015 and did not seek reelection.
