(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Public Health Department is looking at potentially expanding its environmental health division.
Jotham Arbor, Health Services Director for Guthrie County, made a presentation to the Supervisors on Tuesday and suggested that going forward they might want to think about adding new services to environmental health. Arbor says they could start inspections of local restaurants which are done by the state and also code enforcements. Arbor also says they need to think about addressing air quality
Arbor also is looking at eliminating local well permitting — the Iowa DNR has been doing it for the last 20 years says Arbor so he does not see a need for Guthrie County to do it anymore. However, Arbor says they would have to change their county well ordinances
Arbor will submit the 28E agreement to the county attorney for review before anything is formally changed.
Arbor also says that the county will not have to do transfer station inspections because the Iowa DNR also does that. Arbor also says they submitted their first revue of the landfill for covenant which is required by the Iowa DNR to transition a sanitary landfill from active status to closure.
Arbor also says they are offering flu shots at court houses on a rotational basis as people are lined up to vote.
In other actions, the Supervisors received the Weed Commissioners Annual Report which had a very small amount of complaints and re-appointed Tim Masters as the Weed Commissioner.
