(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa’s aspiring hunters get a special advantage this weekend. Youth Pheasant Season opens Saturday. It’s open to Iowa residents aged 15 and younger. They don’t need a hunting license or habitat fee, but must be accompanied by an adult with a valid license. Mick Klemmsrude is with the Department of Natural Resources.
Only the youth hunter is allowed to shoot pheasants.
Klemmsrude says it’s the 2nd highest pheasant count since 2015.
The regular pheasant season begins October 31st.
