(Underwood) Underwood is back in familiar territory with another postseason appearance. The Eagles finished the regular season 7-1 and will host East Sac County in the first round of the Class 1A State Playoffs.
Underwood Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen discusses the program’s culture.
The Eagles average 32 points per game and have totaled 2,950 yards of offense this season. Sophomore quarterback Nash Mitchell has completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Underwood’s defense features a young group that Mechaelsen says has improved significantly over the past eight weeks. The unit, made up primarily of underclassmen, has held opponents to an average of 16 points per game.
East Sac County enters the matchup with a 6-2 record. Mechaelsen says the Raiders are a familiar opponent, as the two programs spent several years in the same district and met in the playoffs a few years ago.
The Raiders emphasize the run, totaling 1,583 rushing yards this season, while also adding 815 through the air.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Underwood.
