Oskaloosa Community School District May Cancel Homecoming Dance
(Oskaloosa, IA) — The Oskaloosa Community School District may cancel its homecoming dance. The district canceled its homecoming football game and pep assembly on Friday due to reports of inappropriate student behavior last week, including students vandalizing school property and yelling racial slurs. The Homecoming dance was postponed and may be canceled. The district says, if students involved don’t self-report before noon today, the dance is off.
Rising Diesel Prices Continue To Break Records In Iowa
(Des Moines, IA) — Rising diesel prices set records over the weekend in Iowa. According to Triple-A, the average statewide price for a gallon of diesel reached six-28 on Sunday, breaking the previous record set Saturday by seven cents. A gallon of diesel cost three-54 on average in Iowa this time last year. The price for a gallon of regular gasoline was four-38 Sunday, a dollar-41 more than a year ago.
IEDA Approving Tax Credits, Manufacturers Creating 300 New Jobs In Des Moines Metro
(Des Moines, IA) — Three manufacturers in the Des Moines metro are getting tax credits from the state for projects that will create almost 300 new jobs. The Iowa Economic Development and Finance Authority is approving $1.8 million in tax credits for Pratt Industries to build its first U.S. facility in Bondurant. The facility is expected to create 105 new jobs. The authority also approved about a million dollars in credits for Accu-Mold to expand its Ankeny facility, which the company says will create 150 jobs. Summit Products is receiving $200,000 in tax credits to expand its Altoona facility and create 21 new jobs.
Judge Rules State Historical Society In Iowa City Must Remain Open
(Iowa City, IA) — A judge has reversed the state’s decision to close the State Historical Society of Iowa’s facility in Iowa City. The Save Iowa History Coalition says a Johnson County judge issued the ruling without a hearing. Historians and donors sued after the state announced plans to move the collections to Des Moines. The order reverses the Iowa Department of Administrative Services’ decision to close the facility. The Iowa City branch has housed historical documents, artifacts, and other research materials in the Centennial Building for decades.
