(Harlan, IA) — Harlan’s football team got in the win column on Friday with a 48-0 win over Denison Schleswig in their Homecoming game. Brody Bendorf scored the first TD on a 2 yard run and then Landon Nihsen returned a punt 51 yards for a TD to make it 14-0 and the Cyclones never looked back.
The Cyclones had 239 rushing yards in the game — Sophomore Levi Shields had 9 carries for 60 yards and 1 score; Sophomore Avery Kimmen added 6 carries for 51 yards and a TD; but it was Bendorf who led the way with 11 carries for 98 yards and 3 TD. He says it was a good feeling to get things moving on offense
The defense pitched a shutout against Denison and the tackle chart was balanced — Coy Obrecht had 4 tackles and 3 TFLs, Ray Schechinger had 4 tackles and 2 TFLs, and Bendorf had 4 tackles and a QB sack
Harlan was 1-3 in non district action but their record goes to 0-0 as district play starts this Friday and the Cyclones will have a tough test in hosting Carroll who upset Lewis Central last week.
Harlan had won four in a row against the Tigers until Carroll broke through last year 33-28.
