(Area) A flood warning is in effect for Adair County until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The warning is due to small-stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
Emergency management officials reported numerous road closures in the warned area Tuesday afternoon, with water nearing Highway 25 south of Greenfield. Between two and four inches of rain have fallen, with another one to two inches possible overnight.
The Middle River and other streams are expected to be impacted. Areas that could experience flooding include Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Orient and Bridgewater, as well as the Greenfield Municipal Airport and Nodaway Park. The warning also includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 73 and 96.
A separate flood warning has been issued for the East Nishnabotna River at Red Oak in Montgomery County, and is in effect until late Wednesday night.
The river was at 17.6 feet at 4 p.m. Tuesday, with flood stage at 18 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage and crest at about 19.7 feet shortly after midnight before falling below flood stage late Wednesday morning.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and never drive through water covering the roadway.
Tuesday afternoon, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported flooding from Olive Street to Great River Road. The roadway was clear for travel, but the Atlantic Little League fields are under water.
