(Atlantic) Coca-Cola Days Celebrates an American Tradition with Baseball and Apple Pie. What’s more American than Coca-Cola, baseball, and apple pie?
Those classics are coming together during Coca-Cola Days, September 25-26 in Atlantic. This year’s theme, “An American Tradition,” celebrates America’s 250th birthday, and a few new activities are joining the longtime favorites at the Cass County Community Center. The Apple Pie Baking Contest is open to anyone with a favorite recipe and a little competitive spirit. Maybe it’s Grandma’s recipe, one pulled from a church cookbook
or something your family has made its own over the years. Entries will be divided into three categories: Commercial/Restaurant, Adult, and Under 18.
Registration is due September 18. Pies should be delivered to the Cass County Community Center between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26. Judging begins at 10 a.m., with pies scored on flaky crust, texture, flavor ,and appearance.
More comfortable on the pitcher’s mound than in the kitchen? The new Baseball/Softball Throwing Contest starts at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The contest is free and includes divisions for grade school and middle school, high school, and adults 18 and older. Everyone gets three throws, and the fastest one counts. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Pre-registration is encouraged so organizers have an idea of how many to expect in each division, but day-of registration will also be available.
Of course, Coca-Cola Days wouldn’t be Coca-Cola Days without the collectors. The Coca-Cola Show, Swap & Sell runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, along with the Coca-Cola Days raffle and a photo opportunity with the Coca-Cola Polar Bear. Families can also stop by for inflatables, bounce houses, and face painting. A food truck and live music by Dirt Road Divide round out Saturday’s lineup.
The weekend gets underway Friday with the Community Tailgate Party from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Cass County Community Center.
Registration for both contests, the full Coca-Cola Days schedule, and additional information are available at www.atlanticiowa.com/event/coca-cola-days-2/. For questions or a physical registration form, contact the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce at 712-243-3017 or chamber@atlanticiowa.com.
