(Iowa City, IA) — The University of Iowa released its football depth chart ahead of this week’s game against Northern Illinois and the QB position is still murky. On the depth chart, it lists Hank Brown first and then OR Jeremy Hecklinski however it comes with the following disclaimer “Positions listed with OR are ordered numerically.” Jimmy Sullivan is listed number three on the depth chart and incoming Freshman Traedon Bessinger did not make the list.
Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has said repeatedly that neither Brown or Hecklinski has the edge over the other. Brown is a 6-4, 218 pound 4th year player from Nashville who is a transfer from Auburn. He has started two games in his career both with the Tigers and is 45 of 73 for 642 yards with 7 TD and 4 INT in his career. Hecklinski is a 5-11, 201 pound 3rd year player from Marietta, GA and a transfer from Wake Forest. He has never started and has only three game appearances — 2 with Iowa and 1 with the Deacons — and has completed both his pass attempts for 8 yards.
Elsewhere on the depth chart, Kuemper Catholic grad DJ Vonnahme is the not the clear starter at Tight End — he is in a OR spot with Addison Ostrenga who was the starter to begin last season before being injured.
The offensive line spots are now set with 4th year starting the season at Right Guard and 4th year Cael Winter at Center. 4th year Leighton Jones won the Left Guard spot. Left Tackle belongs to 4th year Trevor Lauck and Right Tackle is 5th year player Jack Dotzler.
Ferentz had said last week that the kicker and punter positions were still up in the air but 2nd year and Bettendorf, IA native Caden Buhr will be the starter as Placekicker and Aussie 1st year Boston Everitt is the starting punter.
