(Oakland, IA) — The defending 1A state cross country champions Riverside Bulldogs begin their new season where they finished last year — at the top. Riverside won the Glenwood meet on Saturday and Owen Fenner earned his first ever cross country individual title. Head Coach Alex Oliver says its never easy winning a state championship let along repeating one
In order to win state titles in cross country, your best runner is only as good as your 5th scoring runner — you must have depth and Oliver likes his depth with Cruz Jaquez, Eli Hudnall at 2 and 3 respectively plus Colton Hering at #4 and Trig Drahota at #5.
On the girls side, Riverside did not have enough runners to field a complete team — you must have five to qualify in the team standings but Oliver says they will at some point this season.
Riverside has this whole week off — they are scheduled to run again next Tuesday at Clarinda.
