(Des Moines) A Polk County judge ruled that Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Nicholas Gluba cannot be on the November election ballot.
Gluba and his running mate Jules Cutler, the Libertarian lieutenant governor candidate, were disqualified by the three member Iowa State Objections Panel last month over improperly filed paperwork. The panel is made up of three Republicans after State Auditor Rob Sand withdrew because, he too, is running for governor as a Democrat.
Polk County District Court Judge Joseph Seidlin agreed with the panel’s finding that Cutler failed to file a signed affidavit by the deadline of June 5, though she claims the Secretary of State’s office told her she didn’t need one.
Gulba said that the Libertarians are not done, and a higher body than the judge – like the Iowa Supreme Court – could make the final decision. The candidates have not yet filed an appeal. If reinstated, they will run against Sand and Republican candidate Zach Lahn.
