(Des Moines) Iowa is joining a bipartisan push to combat illegal robocalls. Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has joined 49 other attorneys general urging the Federal Communications Commission to strengthen rules preventing scammers from using the U.S. Communications Network to make robocalls.
The attorneys general say the FCC’s current “Know Your Customer” rules aren’t strong enough and argue additional protections are needed. They are calling for stronger requirements that would make phone companies of all sizes verify who is placing calls and the business behind them.
In 2025, Americans received around 29.6 billion scam calls and lost $2 billion. Anyone who has received a scam call is encouraged to contact law enforcement or the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
