(Fort Dodge, IA) — Exira EHK Audubon softball will battle Edgewood Colesburg in their first game of the Class 1A State Tournament today; coverage on KSOM.
The Spartans are the number one seed and 23-4 on the season. It is a double elimination tournament — the team that survives the upper brackets will play the lower bracket champ in the 1A State Title game on Friday. West Monona is the 4 seed and Southeast Warren is the 5 seed to complete the Spartans half. Exira EHK/Audubon Head Coach Tom Petersen likes the new format
Ed-Co is is 27-10 and were the runners up in the Tri Rivers West Conference behind North Linn who the Vikings beat in the Regional Finals 3-2. Edgewood, Iowa is in Northeast Iowa — the Delaware and Clayton County line runs right through the middle of the town — Edgewood is about 15 miles north of Manchester.
The Vikings are led by Senior Rachel Eglseder (Egg–uhl–seeder) who has been an incredible story as a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin lymphoma in December and became cancer free last month. Petersen says she is a two way standout pitcher and hitter
Exira EHK Audubon is making their 2nd state tournament appearance in the last three years; Ed-Co is making their 5th trip to Fort Dodge and also their first since 2024. Overall, Petersen says they have to execute the basics
