(Lyon Co) One person was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Lyon County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 3:53 p.m. at the intersection of County Road K52 and County Road A34.
Authorities say 19-year-old Tristan Smith, of Rock Rapids, was driving a 2021 Buick Envision northbound on County Road K52 when he failed to stop at a stop sign. The SUV collided with an open-top 1991 Jeep Wrangler driven by 69-year-old Steven Ludwig, of Sibley, who was traveling eastbound on County Road A34.
Following the collision, both vehicles entered the northeast ditch. Both occupants of the Jeep were ejected from the vehicle.
A passenger in the Jeep, 73-year-old Joleene Klaassen, of Sibley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ludwig was flown by helicopter to Sanford Sioux Falls for treatment of his injuries.
