(Macedonia) The City of Macedonia is receiving $223,000 in federal funding to improve its water system as part of more than $19 million in rural development investments announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
USDA Rural Development Iowa State Director Mike Sexton announced the funding Thursday, saying the investments will improve medical services, emergency response, clean water infrastructure and business support in rural Iowa communities.
The Macedonia project is being funded through the USDA’s Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants program. The grant will help pay for the construction of a new well in the city’s existing well field.
According to USDA Rural Development, Macedonia’s current wells must reduce their pumping rates during dry weather conditions, which can leave the community with an insufficient water supply. The new well is expected to help the city meet peak water demands and provide a safe, reliable drinking water supply for the community’s 267 residents.
