(Cass Co.) Cass County Engineer Trent Wolken told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning that the Iowa Department of Transportation plans to apply for the Competitive Highway Bridge Project Grant. If the grant is awarded, Cass County will receive funding to replace two bridges.
Wolken said to qualify, a bridge must be rated in poor condition, have an average daily traffic count of more than 70 vehicles, not be historically eligible, and be less than 250 feet in structural length. Based on those criteria, Cass County had 16 eligible bridges. Wolken submitted four of them for consideration and was notified that two were selected for the grant application.
Wolken informed the board that he will be seeking letters of support to include with the grant application.
