(Pottawattamie Co.) Pottawattamie County has kicked off its annual Christmas in July fundraising campaign to support the Sheriff’s Office Shop with the Sheriff program.
During Tuesday’s meeting of the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors, Senior Administrative Assistant Rikayla Champlin announced that a decorated Christmas tree has been placed in the lobby of the Pottawattamie County Courthouse to make donating simple and convenient.
Champlin said the tree features QR codes that visitors can scan with their smartphones to make a donation to the program.
Every dollar raised goes directly to helping local children.
The funds allow children to shop for winter essentials, including coats, boots, snow pants, and clothing. Participants also have the opportunity to pick out a few special Christmas gifts during a shopping trip at Target.
The Shop with the Sheriff program was founded in 1998 by the late Lieutenant Larry Brown and has grown into the Sheriff’s Office’s largest annual community outreach effort.
