(Des Moines) After a comfortable June, the summer heat is going to come in swinging throughout the state.”Right now, the big thing we are looking at is that it is going to be very hot and very humid,” said Jack Rotter, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines.
Rotter tells KSOM/KS95 News the heat will begin to build early next week and persist through the 4th of July weekend. He adds that the National Weather Service is currently forecasting several days of triple-digit heat indices reaching 110 degrees in much of the state, except northern Iowa.
“According to the data we are looking at, we could experience several days of heat indices reaching 110 degrees,” said Rotter. “The triple-digit heat indices are forecast to linger into the balance of the week.”
Rotter says the heat spell could hang around, and maybe not quite the extreme heat indexes the state will experience next week; however, he did say the heat could stick around for the balance of the summer.
