(Des Moines, IA ) — The butter cow is one of the favorites at the Iowa State Fair, and this year a beloved spot will also be immortalized in butter. Mindy Williamson, with the Iowa State Fair, announced today butter sculptor Sarah Pratt will create the iconic Pepsi Clock.
Located on the Grand Concourse across from the entrance to the Midway, the clock has been a favorite meeting spot for decades.
Tomorrow marks 50 days until the Iowa State Fair. Iowa State Fair CEO Jeremy Parsons says organizers are busy preparing for the more than one-million attendees.
Some of those patriotic celebrations include an exhibit of 250 Years of the American Flag, the Iowa Veterans Memorial Walkway, and nightly drone shows. Also new this year: Several additional restrooms, replaced roofs on several buildings, a two-point-five-million-dollar “refresh” of the Varied Industries Building, and added shaded seating.
And, after considering several locations, there will be a new shuttle route this year. Mindy Williamson says fairgoers can hitch a free ride from Southridge Mall and other locations.
The cost is covered by the Fair. The Southridge shuttle service will cost the Fair 300-thousand dollars. Last year 90-thousand riders took the bus from the previous location, Southeast Polk. There are also shuttles from Center Street and the State Capitol.
The fair runs August 13th to 23rd.
