(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC will entertain Interstate 35 tonight in a West Central baseball doubleheader, coverage on KSOM.
The Chargers are 4-6 and coming off what Head Coach Nick McCool says is their best performance in a 8-1 win over Madrid. One main area of emphasis is pitching — AC/GC has a team ERA of 5.13 but there have been three guys that excelled — Senior Tommy Skram has a 3.39 ERA in 10 plus innings; Senior Blaize Dorsey has a 3.20 ERA in 19 plus innings and Senior Chase Slaybaugh has a 1.75 ERA in 4 innings. McCool says he is looking for consistency across the board
On the offensive side, Dorsey is leading the way with a .440 average with 7 RBI; Skram is at .382 with 9 RBI; Freshman Bryce Benda is hitting .375; another Freshman Joseph Fagan is at .367; yet another Freshman Will Skram is at .379. McCool likes this team’s confidence at the dish
Interstate 35 is 10-6 and led by Junior Kale Murphy (.568, 1 HR, 17 RBI, 23 SB). Murphy is not eligible to throw after 42 pitches in a 18-1 loss to Pleasantville on Tuesday. Neither is Sophomore Chase Stephens who threw 92 pitches on Monday. Junior Bryce Jelsma (3-1, 0.72 ERA) and Junior Zach Masters (2-2, 3.05 ERA) are solid in their own right. McCool says they will have to play mistake free baseball to track down the Road Runners
AC/GC hosts Interstate 35 in a baseball DH tonight, first pitch at 5 pm, coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM and westerniowatoday.com.
