(Estherville. Iowa) One person died, and another person suffered injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Emmet County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 6:42 p.m. on Friday in the 4100 Block of Highway 9, east of Estherville. Authorities say 41-year-old John James Baumgart, of Armstrong, died in a crash, and 50-year-old Karie Marie Eisma of Hawarden, Iowa, suffered injuries in the crash.
According to the report, a 1996 GM pickup driven by 41-year-old James Baumgart was westbound on Highway 9 east of 410th Avenue, while a 2020 Peterbilt semi driven by Kari Marie Eisma of Hawarden, Iowa, was traveling eastbound on Highway 9. For unknown reasons, the pickup crossed the centerline and struck the semi. The pickup came to rest in the north ditch, and the semi ended up in the south ditch, and became fully engulfed in flames.
Baumgart was pronounced deceased at the scene. Estherville Ambulance transported Eisma to a local hospital.
