Cameron Way of Tri Center got on the medal stand in a tie for 10th place — after a round one 88, the sophomore shot a 79 on Friday with 10 pars, one birdie, 6 bogeys and one double bogey. The two day total of 167 tied with Claire Becker of South Winneshiek — the top 10 and ties get medals.
Jaylee Shaffer of Mount Ayr stayed in the lead and ran away with the Class 1A individual state championship in girls golf. Shaffer followed up a first round of 70 with a 76 and won by a dominating 9 strokes over Addie Fier of Easton Valley.
Alyssa Dowling of Sidney finished in 23rd place with an 89, 89 — 178.
In Class 2A, Taylor Rasmussen of Clarinda got on the medal stand, finishing in a tie for 10th place (80, 83 — 163) — she was two strokes behind Olivia Swartzendruber of Mid Prairie but she double bogeyed her final hole to drop into a tie with Rasmussen. Addy Weinrich for the Cardinals finished tied for 18th (88, 80 — 168).
Kuemper Catholic finished in 6th place in the 2A team standings — Addy Beiter was the low round for the Knights finishing in 16th place (88, 78 — 166); Elsa Tiefenthaler was tied for 29th (93, 88 — 181); Giada Lujano was tied for 45th (96, 97 — 193); Brooklyn Lahr was tied for 55th (103. 97 — 200); Addison Tigges was 65th (104, 106 — 210); and Adaylyn Pietig was tied for 71st (112, 108 — 220).
In Class 4A, Chloe Perfect of Lewis Central shot an 82, 78 for a (+20) 160 and finished 19th. Cathrine Perfect of LC shot an 87,83 for (+30) 170 and was 36th.
