(Elk Horn, IA) — Hopefully there is nowhere to go up for Exira EHK baseball as they open their season tonight. The Spartans had just two wins a year ago and lose key seniors Alex Hansen and Josh Nelson. Head Coach Trey Petersen will have to rely on Senior Austin Rasmussen and Junior Anthony Young — especially in the pitching department
Senior Owen Juhl will be the catcher but will see some time on the mound; Sophomore Blake Nelson will get some starts and eat some innings; Senior Preston White will also help out on the mound; the bench is short, there are only 14 players out for baseball this year.
Exira EHK must generate some more offense after a team average of .173 and only scoring 37 runs all of last year
Petersen says he needs the guys to put the ball in play — the Spartans had too many strikeouts last year. There is a lot to work on but Petersen says his main emphasis with the team is improving the defense
Exira EHK will host AC/GC tonight.
