(Corning, IA) — Southwest Valley hosted a track meet on Thursday evening and there some fast times and some season PRs.
The girls 100 Hurdles was a huge race featuring three of the fastest runners in the state. Rylee Hemmingsen of Treynor won over Lana Alley of Fremont Mills and Ada Hansen of CAM — Hemmingsen posted a fast time of 14.46 seconds which is a season PR and extended her lead in Class 2A, besting her previous time of 14.71. Alley was 2nd and moved past Hansen with a time of 14.53 which is a season PR and now has the fastest time in Class 1A with Hansen 2nd at 14.56. Hansen finished 3rd in the race at 15.05.
Hansen, however, won the 400 with a time of 58.53 which is a season PR and is the 3rd fastest time in Class 1A behind Emma Reynolds of Mount Ayr (58.23) and Alaina Gourley of Danville (58.41). She also cruised to a win in the 400 Hurdles (1:02.64) and anchored the Sprint Medley relay to a win with Brookelyn Steffen, Brylee Steffen and Ruthie Rich, getting a season PR of 1:52.08 which ranks 4th in Class 1A.
Alley won the 200 with a season PR of 25.69 and has the 2nd fastest time in Class 1A behind Emma Reynolds of Mount Ayr at 25.59. Alley also anchored the Shuttle Hurdle relay to a win at 1:06.64 with Carlie Nuckolls, Bella Gute and Abby Malcom.
Hemmingsen lost to Alley in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay but Treynor posted a season PR of 1:07.34 which is the 2nd fastest time in Class 2A behind Alburnett (1:07.06). Zoey Zadalis, Ava Saar and Nora Konz round out the shuttle team. Hemmingsen also won the High Jump.
AHSTW had a great night in two relays — finishing 1st in 4×200 (McKenzie Behrens, Emery Brockhoff, Ava Paulsen, Kennedy Wyman) with a season PR, of 1:50.27 which ranks 11th in Class 1A and finished 1st in 4×400 (Macey Goshorn, Ava Paulsen, Kennedy Wyman, Bella Lamp) at 4:10.20 which is a season PR and ranks 3rd in Class 1A.
In the field events, Ella Gade of Griswold also had a night winning the discus with an incredible throw of 122-5 which is a season PR by 14 feet 3 inches. Gade went from being ranked 24th in Class 1A to 5th.
Treynor was the team champ with 154 points ahead of Fremont Mills in 2nd with 105.5 and CAM third with 82.
Southwest Valley won the boys meet and had some great runs from Brody Crozier who won the 100, won the 200 and was 2nd in the Long Jump. Wyatt Mendenhall won the 400 Hurdles and was 2nd in the 110 Hurdles. Both Crozier and Mendenhall were joined by Walker Bissel and Gavin Wetzel to win the Sprint Medley relay. Caleb Owen won the Shot Put.
The Timberwolves had 103.5 points as AHSTW was 2nd with 87 and Bedford third with 85.
Collin Harder won the 400 and 800 for the Vikings.
Jace Hardisty of CAM won the Discus and the Cougars won the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Gabe Winkelmann set a new season PR in the 1600 with a win and anchored the 4×800 relay to a win and also season PR.
