(Glenwood) The Atlantic girls track team claimed the team title at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Track Meet Thursday in Glenwood, finishing with 131.5 points to edge runner-up Glenwood’s 127. Atlantic recorded five event wins, one second-place finish, and four third-place finishes. Glenwood finished with five event titles, one second-place finish, and two third-place finishes.
Stellah Van Aernam led the Trojans with four conference championships, winning the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and helping Atlantic capture both the 4×200 and 4×100 meter relays. The Trojans won the 4×200 relay in 1:47.51 with E. Jones, Hass, Middents, and Van Aernam. Atlantic then sealed the team title with a victory in the 4×100 relay, as Wiederstein, Reed, Middents, and Van Aernam posted a winning time of 49.85. Jayci Reed earned three conference titles as part of the winning Shuttle Hurdle Relay team alongside A. Jones, E. Jones, and Adler Bruce, in addition to running on the victorious 4×100 relay team. Atlantic also picked up key points in the 400 hurdles, where Adler Bruce finished third and Katrina Williams placed fifth. Wiederstein added a third-place finish in the long jump, while the 4×800 relay team of Harlan, Hickman, Mendez-Cordero, and William earned third-place honors. Emerie Jones was sixth in the Long Jump.
Grace Berglund, 3000, Megan Hughes in the 1500, the 4×400, 800 Sprint Medley, and Ava Hernandez in the Shot Put picked up first place points for Glenwood. Glenwood with kicked off the meet with a win in the 800 Sprint Medley Relay with a season’s best time of 1:50.98. The team members included Kelsey, Hughes, Wright, and Hebel. Grace Berglund added to the scoring with a first place showing in the 3000 meters. Berglund her led the entire race with Madelyn Hoss of Lewis Central running step-for-step, before Berglund extended her lead with 800 meters to left in the race and brought home the victory for the Rams in a time of 10:18.71. Maggie Smith finished second in the Discus throwing 110-05.
Clarinda finished third with 103 points, led by Stevie Wilmes, who won the 400 hurdles in 1:08.26. Ellery Bird added runner-up finishes in the high jump (5-02.00) and 400 meters (58.99), along with a third-place finish in the 200 meters (25.93). The 4×100 relay also took second in 50.49, while the Shuttle Hurdle Relay placed third in 1:12.70 and Kylie Meier finished second in the long jump at 16-08.25.
Lewis Central finished fourth with 81 points, led by Madelyn Hoss with second-place finishes in the 3,000 meters (10:24.58) and 800 meters (2:21.33). Delayna Reese added two third-place finishes in the same events, while Olivia Ausdemore was third in the high jump and the 4×200 relay also placed third in 1:50.63.
Creston finished fifth with 72 points, led by Cora Smith, who won the 400 meters in 58.51 and added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters (25.91). The distance medley relay placed second in 4:29.84, while Jaycee Hanson was third in the shot put (34-03.00) and the 4×100 relay took third in 50.56.
Denison-Schleswig finished seventh with 46 points, led by Sara Munn’s win in the high jump (5-02.00). Kyia Clark added a second-place finish in the 100 meters (12.51) and fourth in the 200 meters (25.99). The distance medley relay placed third in 4:35.77, while the shuttle hurdle and 4×100 relays both took fifth.
Kuemper tied for eighth with Shenandoah with 26 Denison-Schleswig with 26-points. Kuemper Catholic was led by Morgan Masching’s long jump title with a leap of 16-09.25, while Addison Schon added a second-place finish in the shot put at 34-08.75 as the Knights also earned relay placings in the 4×100, 4×800, and 800 sprint medleys.
St Albert finished in 10th place with 26 points. The team earned four strong relay finishes, highlighted by runner-up performances in three events. The 800 Sprint Medley Relay placed second with a time of 1:52.21, while the 4×200 relay also finished second in 1:48.61. The 4×400 relay added another second-place finish with a time of 4:09.61. In the Distance Medley Relay, the team placed seventh with a time of 4:52.99.
Red Oak finished eleventh with 7 points. Jocelyn O’Neal finished eighth in the 400 meters, and third in the Long Jump.
