(Atlantic) Atlantic senior lineman Donovan Hedrington signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Virginia Lynchburg-Vul on Friday. Hedrington says his decision came down to two schools, one in California, and Virginia Lynchburg-Vul. Donovan says Virginia Lynchburg seemed like a better fit for him.
Donovan Hedrington earned significant recognition for his play on the offensive and defensive line at Atlantic High School, highlighted by his selection to the Iowa Football Coaches Association All-State Second Team as an offensive lineman. He was also a unanimous First-Team All-District selection in Class 3A District 6.
Hedrington credits his coaches for helping improve his skills over the past four years.
Hedrington says the goal is to get faster while adding muscle weight. Hedrington currently weighs 210 and aims to reach 240.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says Donovan’s has a great support system at home. Brummer pointed out Donovan’s enthusiasm and being in the moment.
Additionally, Hedrington had a decorated wrestling career. Donovan qualified for the state tournament twice and finished his career with more than 130 wins. Throughout his time at Atlantic, he was recognized as both a team captain and Most Valuable Player, reflecting his importance to the program. Hedrington also played a key role in helping lead one of the most successful wrestling teams in Atlantic’s recent history.
Donovan will be a pre-med student to become a Dermatologist.
