(Oakland, IA) — Last year, Riverside Boys Track and Field just missed out on getting a trophy at state, finishing 4th in the team competition. Tonight, the Bulldogs have their first outdoor meet of their season in Audubon. Riverside is as strong or even stronger with three seniors leading the way — Jaxon Gordon, Brody Henderson and Dawson Henderson. Head Coach Alex Oliver say that Gordon will lead the sprints and Henderson leads the distance
Last year, Dawson Henderson and Gordon helped the Sprint Medley relay set a new state meet record and a first place while the Henderson brothers were on the 4×800 relay that won a state title. Oliver has a lot of different options in his relays this year thanks to three juniors — Cole Jeppesen, Owen Fenner and Cruz Jacquez who can run in a variety of events. Jeppesen made it to state last year in the open 100; Jacquez made it to state in the open 800. Plus, there is Sophomore Eli Hudnall who Oliver says had a great indoor season
Oliver says this team has some lofty goals and want to crack into the top three of the state team standings. In order to get more points, Oliver has emphasized the field events where the Bulldogs did not get many points last year
Riverside will be on the track at Audubon’s Early Bird meet tonight along with AHSTW, Ar-We-Va, Coon Rapids Bayard, Exira EHK, Heartland Christian, IKM Manning, Missouri Valley, OABCIG, Paton Churdan, Ridge View, Tri Center, Underwood.
