(Atlantic) Authorities have released new details about a fatal crash that occurred during the March 15 blizzard in Cass County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the multi-vehicle accident happened around 5:45 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 59.
Officials say 54-year-old Amy Lynn Jurrens, of George, was a passenger in a 2023 Jeep involved in the crash. She was transported by Cass EMS to Cass Health, where she later died from her injuries. Authorities noted she was wearing a seat belt.
The Jeep was driven by 56-year-old Jerry Ray Jurrens, also of George. He was not injured.
In addition to the Jeep, several other vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction crash, including two semi-trucks — a 2024 Freightliner driven by a man from La Prairie, Quebec, Canada, and a 2024 Peterbilt operated by a driver from Grand Prairie, Texas — as well as a 2019 Volvo truck driven by a man from Sacramento, California.
Three passenger vehicles were also involved: a 2019 Chevy driven by a woman from Stryker, Ohio; a 2017 Dodge driven by a woman from Napoleon, Ohio; and a 2020 Nissan driven by a man from La Vista, Nebraska.
The crash remains under investigation.
