(Greenfield) The Adair County Sheriff’s Department reports that Cristian Ortiz, a 33-year-old man from Adair, was arrested on March 15 after an incident involving a woman identified as his girlfriend, who was struck by his vehicle. Ortiz faces several charges, including Willful Injury with Bodily Injury, Domestic Abuse Assault with Bodily Injury-1st offense, Kidnapping in the 3rd Degree, and Reckless Driving. His bond at the Adair County Jail is set at $25,000.
Deputies, along with Adair Rescue and Adair County EMS, responded to a call at a tavern on Audubon Street, where the victim reported being hit by an SUV allegedly driven by Ortiz. During the investigation, Ortiz claimed he was searching for his missing son. The victim stated that Ortiz had asked her to pick up the child from a nearby gas station, but became upset when she had taken the boy to a friend’s house for safety.
According to the victim, while driving with Ortiz, he allegedly assaulted her and demanded to know the child’s whereabouts. After she stopped and exited the vehicle, Ortiz took control of the SUV. The report indicates that as the victim walked back to the gas station, Ortiz allegedly struck her with the vehicle.
Ortiz then allegedly dragged the woman back into the SUV. The victim managed to call 911 and escaped the vehicle, attempting to reach the bar on Audubon Street for help, believing there would be witnesses present. As she walked towards the bar, Ortiz circled the area in the vehicle, raising her fears that he would come after her again. Staff from the bar came outside to assist her and informed Deputies that Ortiz had been inside and consuming alcohol prior to these events.
