(Atlantic) Atlantic Public Library Director Michelle Andersen presented her annual report to the city council on Wednesday.
Andersen says the city is the primary funding source through property taxes. She thanks the city for its continued support throughout the years.
Andersen spoke about ways they value the library besides the return on the investment. She says the library is also the keeper of local history, with the Atlantic Community schools year, also known as the Javelin, from 1899 to 2024. Digitize Atlantic newspapers from 1824 to 2022. Andersen says there is no sign-in.
The library also provides monthly delivery or access to digital services for those who cannot visit in person. Andersen mentioned that all library services are supported by public funding.
Michelle Andersen says this past fiscal year, the Atlantic Public Library had 47,000 checkouts, with nearly half of those being children’s material, and a total door count of 42,000 people entering the building. Additionally, the library had 15,000 online checkouts,10,000 uses of the library’s other online services, and over 11,000 unique views on the library’s website.
Michelle says the library has over 38,000 items for checkout, 14,000 uses of its’ WIFI, 100 uses of the library’s public computers, and a total of 2,042 attended the library’s 296 events during the last fiscal year.
