Former Harlan City Administrator sentenced on charges of Theft 2nd and Tampering with Records

(Harlan) Former Harlan City Administrator Terry Cox was sentenced today on charges Theft 2^nd Degree and Tampering with Records.

According to Court Records, Terry Cox pleaded guilty to charges on July 11^th. Today, Cox was sentenced to five years in prison on the Theft 2^nd charge and two years in Prison for Tampering with Records. However, both sentences were suspended and Cox was placed on probation. Cox was also fined $1,000 for the Theft 2^nd charge and $625 for the charge of Tampering with Records. A charge of Felonious Misconduct in Office was dismissed by the Court.

Terry Cox turned himself in to authorities in June 2018. The charges were the result of an ongoing criminal investigation.

A State Auditor’s Office report identified $144,872.32 of improper and unsupported disbursements. The audit spanned from July 1, 2004, through June 30, 2016. Of that total, $34,000 was paid to former City Administrator Terry Cox for improper travel reimbursements. Additionally, $35,000 was paid to Cox for hours he didn’t work.

Cox resigned as City Administration in June, 2016.
