(Marshall County, IA) — A second person has died related to the Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in Marshall County. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the death yesterday while identifying 71 infected people since August. The person reportedly died on September 18th and is described as an “elderly adult with multiple underlying health conditions,” making it the second elderly person to die this month as a result of the outbreak. Officials say local cooling towers appear to be the most likely source of the Legionnaire’s outbreak, though lab testing has not yet confirmed a source. Residents of north central Marshalltown should consult a doctor immediately if they have a persistent cough, fever, or symptoms of pneumonia.
